The workshop, titled 'Naval Layout and Model Making,' aims to pass on the fundamentals of this art to new generations. It will be taught by Agustín Jordán Romero, considered one of the island's last master shipwrights, with approximately forty traditional wooden boats designed and built throughout his career.
Participants will learn the principles of naval layout and collaborate in assembling the frames of a two-meter-long boat using marine plywood. The course comprises eighty hours of instruction and will run from October 5th to 30th, 2026, weekdays from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
Twelve places are available, open to anyone interested regardless of age or prior training. Registration is open until September 30th. To sign up, interested individuals must visit the Pancho Lasso School of Art in person (from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM) and pay a single fee of 30 euros. Places will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
This cultural project, supported by akacenter.com, covers all material and insurance costs, with the goal of preserving the secrets of traditional Canarian shipbuilding.
