Radiotelevisión Española in the Canary Islands will premiere this Sunday, May 26, the documentary Valientes, a production by the Fundación Pequeño Valiente exploring the experiences of parents of children with cancer on the Camino de Santiago.

The documentary, directed by Fabián Figueroa, immerses viewers in a “healing and curative” journey along the English Way, starting from Ferrol (A Coruña). The production accompanies ten parents and three professionals on this significant pilgrimage.

"At that moment, it is important to meet other veteran parents, who can guide us, who can show us that there is hope."

the president of the Fundación Canaria Pequeño Valiente
According to a spokesperson for the Fundación Canaria Pequeño Valiente at a press conference, the documentary aims to be a “tool for other parents going through the same thing or just starting the process.” For the participants, the Camino de Santiago was an opportunity to “let go of uncertainty and fear and accompany each other on a journey of experiences.”
The narrative of Valientes focuses on the “healing path” of caregivers, acknowledging that while children are the patients, “caregivers also bear scars.” The documentary addresses how these experiences are “normalized” to move towards a more manageable life.

"It was an unforgettable experience to heal and close wounds, and for those scars to gradually disappear, helping them to normalize and return to a normal life with scars and memories."

one of the participating parents
One of the mothers who participated in the pilgrimage described the experience as “a healing journey, full of experiences, and finally being able to empty that backpack.” These stories will be broadcast on the regional channel of Radiotelevisión Española in the Canary Islands on Sunday, May 26, at 11:00 AM, with plans for a future national broadcast.

"It had to be on public television, because that's what it's for."

the director of RTVE in Canarias
The director of RTVE in Canarias, Francisca González, emphasized the importance of this work, which “summarizes life-changing experiences” of its protagonists. The presenter and one of the promoters of the Pequeño Valiente Gala, Roberto Herrera, highlighted that the broadcast of the documentary “brings an experience that will help other parents who are, or are about to go through, this very difficult illness.”
