Villa de Mazo continues until this Sunday, September 20, with the celebration of the festivals honoring Nuestra Señora del Carmen in La Salemera. The festivities offer various proposals that blend tradition, culture, music, and activities for all audiences, aiming to recover part of the coastal enclave's maritime history.
Mayor Idafe Hernández expressed his gratitude for the involvement of the Neighborhood Association and the festival committee. "We know the work they do throughout the year and the effort it takes to prepare festivals like these. Without them, it would be difficult to carry out such a program," stated the mayor, who also acknowledged the collaboration of sponsoring companies. "Now it's time to enjoy all that hard work. We invite both the people of the municipality and from other parts of the island to come to La Salemera these days and join us," he added.
One of the highlighted proposals is ‘Historias de Madera y Sal’ (Stories of Wood and Salt), organized by Cultura Mágica, dedicated to recovering and bringing traditional seafaring trades closer to the public. This initiative has included an introductory workshop on boat design, a demonstration of traditional carpentry, and the monologue ‘Cosas de barcos’ (Boat Stuff), by Agustín Jordán Romero.
The Councilor for Culture and Festivals, Mariela Ramos, thanked all those involved in preparing the program. "Behind these days there are many hours of work, meetings, and organization. We want to especially thank the Neighborhood Association and the festival committee for all the effort and enthusiasm they put in so that La Salemera can once again enjoy its festivals," she stated.
The program will continue with a traditional caulking workshop, the micro-theater 'Oficios que navegan' (Navigating Trades), and a colloquium. Music will also have a significant space over the weekend with the Popular Festival and the Gran Salemerazo. Additionally, it is complemented by children's, sports, and gastronomic activities, as well as religious ceremonies in honor of Nuestra Señora del Carmen.
"We still have very different proposals ahead of us, and we want those who come to La Salemera to find activities to enjoy during these last days of the festival," added Ramos. The complete program can be consulted on the municipal website's agenda.
Due to the celebration of the 51st Rally La Palma Isla Bonita, road access to La Salemera will be affected on Saturday, September 19. The City Council recommends consulting the announced road closures and traffic restrictions in advance.
