Throughout Saturday, the Aemet maintained a yellow wind warning that affected La Palma, La Gomera, El Hierro, Tenerife, and Gran Canaria. Maximum gusts reached 70 km/h, particularly in the peaks and mid-slopes of the eastern and western sides of the westernmost islands.
In Tenerife, the wind was concentrated in high areas of the dorsal and the southern slope of the metropolitan area, exceeding 90 km/h in the central peaks during the early morning. Meanwhile, in Gran Canaria, gusts of up to 70 km/h were recorded in peaks and eastern and western slopes.
Although the wind will offer a respite during Sunday morning, yellow warnings will be reactivated from 6:00 PM, extending until the end of the day. This time, the alerts will include both wind and coastal phenomena.
The maximum gusts forecast for those final six hours of Sunday will be 70 km/h in high areas of Gran Canaria, the northwest extreme and east/southeast slope of Tenerife, high areas and eastern and western slopes of La Gomera, high areas and southeast and northwest extremes of La Palma, and the southern and western slopes of El Hierro.
The coastal phenomena warning for Sunday will be limited to Lanzarote and the east, south, and west of Gran Canaria and Tenerife. The Aemet forecasts northeast winds of 50 to 61 km/h (force 7) and combined sea from the north of 4 to 5 meters in Lanzarote.
Despite the strong wind gusts recorded on Friday, which reached 80 km/h at La Palma airport, no flight cancellations or diversions occurred at Canary Islands airports. The cold front also caused a drop in minimum temperatures, reaching -2.5 degrees in Izaña and -1.0 in Roque de Los Muchachos.
