The Government of the Canary Islands has launched the Canarias Suena call, an initiative aimed at providing international visibility to the musical talent of the islands. Canary artists and groups whose proposals focus on world, traditional, or roots music, or who fuse these languages with contemporary sounds, can submit their projects until September 30 at 12:00 PM.
Selected projects will have the opportunity to participate in WOMEX – Worldwide Music Expo, one of the most important global professional markets for roots and world music. This event, taking place at the Auditorio Alfredo Kraus in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria between October 21 and 25, 2026, will bring together music industry professionals from around the world.
Chosen creators will receive professional accreditation for WOMEX and will have access to a space provided by the program to present their work, hold meetings with industry agents, arrange interviews, and showcase their proposals. The objective is to facilitate their access to international circuits that would otherwise be difficult to reach from the Archipelago.
The call will evaluate the quality and uniqueness of the proposal, the artist's or group's trajectory, their distribution capacity, internationalization potential, and the quality of the professional materials presented. The initiative seeks to strengthen support for music creators and professionals in the Islands, providing them with tools to improve their positioning in the global market.
WOMEX transforms the host city into a key meeting point for music creation, programming, production, and distribution. During the day, work meetings and networking activities take place, while at night, showcases allow for the discovery of new musical proposals from various countries. The Gran Canarian capital takes over from Tampere, Finland, the host of WOMEX 2025, and hosts this international event after the 2018 edition.
