The sixth edition of the adult oral storytelling project 'El Candil de Cuentos' arrives in Antigua, establishing itself as a cultural benchmark in Fuerteventura.

The municipality of Antigua is preparing to host the sixth edition of 'El Candil de Cuentos', an oral storytelling event for adults that has become a cultural reference point in Fuerteventura. The initiative, directed by artist Gemma G, aims to promote culture and offer moments of enjoyment to the citizens.
The mayor of Antigua, Juan Cabrera, highlighted the importance of supporting these types of cultural events that attract audiences from all over the island. "I want to thank the organization, technicians, the Department of Culture, and the director Gemma for the great work and effort developed to achieve a high-quality lineup this year," stated Cabrera.
For his part, the Councilor for Culture, Agustín Rodríguez, recalled that Antigua was a pioneer at the insular level in holding this event. He invited the public to participate in the five storytelling sessions that will take place on Fridays in October at the Municipal Library of El Portón, as well as in the five literary creation workshops to be held on Thursdays.
Rodríguez added: "It is fortunate to have this cultural program in Antigua, and I ask people to come and enjoy the art of the wonderful storytellers, who will take us to magical worlds and historical times."
The event's director, Gemma G, detailed that this sixth edition's program features a "luxury" lineup. The cycle will begin on October 2nd with Mexican storyteller Martha Escudero and her show "Cuando te hablen de amor" (When they speak to you of love). This will be followed by Diego Reinfeld on October 9th with "Miedo por andar por casa" (Fear of walking around the house), Yudeina Santana on October 16th with "La mejor escuela" (The best school), Samantha Moreno on October 23rd with "Cuentos del lejano oeste" (Tales from the Wild West), and the cycle will conclude with Figu García on October 30th with "Poesía entre candiles" (Poetry among oil lamps).
In addition to the storytelling sessions, Gemma G explained the workshop "Fuerteventura entre renglones" (Fuerteventura between lines), focused on creating short stories and uniting word and image through photography to discover the island. A creative writing workshop centered on territory and landscape will also be offered.
