Canarian Latin Sailing experienced an intense and eventful second day of the Aguas de Teror Championship in the bay of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria this Sunday. The competition, characterized by winds around 20 knots, was marked by retirements and a capsize, but it solidified three boats as undefeated after the first three races.
The Viajes Insular Arenales Canaluz, helmed by Javier Barreto, secured a valuable victory against Disa Roque Nublo ULPGC, skippered by Daniel Rodríguez. Although Roque Nublo initially dominated, Arenales gained momentum to win with a time of 1:09:36, finishing 1 minute and 51 seconds ahead of their rival.
The day also saw significant incidents. The Unión San Cristóbal Restaurante Los Botes, with Abián Corujo at the helm, capsized near Cardoso and had to withdraw. Subsequently, the Porteño Siscocan Cervezas Pio Pio, helmed by Agustín Juárez, completed the course solo, albeit with some difficulties, achieving their first victory in 1:25:46.
Another notable retirement was that of the Villa de Teror Munchitos, skippered on this occasion by Manolo Farías, due to a problem with the lever that caused a crew member to fall overboard without serious consequences. The Portuarios Puertos de La Luz, with Alejandro Barrera steering, took advantage of the situation to win the race in 1:16:39, remaining among the season's key contenders.
One of the most anticipated matchups saw the Villa de Agüimes Ybarra, helmed by Alejandro Rodríguez, demonstrate its potential by clearly defeating one of its direct rivals for the Aguas de Teror Championship. Agüimes recorded one of the best times of the day at 1:08:56, finishing over four minutes ahead of Spar Guerra del Río, skippered by Alfred Morales.
The final race of the day brought another surprise with the victory of Minerva Idamar Atlantic, skippered by Israel Cabrera, over Chacalote Comercial Sanrob, helmed by Adrián Morales. Minerva completed a very solid race, stopping the clock at 1:12:49.
After the initial races and with one postponed race yet to be held, Portuarios Puertos de Las Palmas and Villa de Agüimes Ybarra lead the overall standings with perfect records. Viajes Insular Arenales Canaluz also remains undefeated. Other boats like Disa Roque Nublo ULPGC and Spar Guerra del Río continue to contend for the top positions.
Next week, Canarian Latin Sailing will continue with the first round of the Fundación La Caja de Canarias Elimination Tournament and the traditional Encounter of Boats and Barquillos.
