The municipality of Firgas is facing a water supply issue with the approach of summer. Following the acceptance of the sanitation works at the municipal reservoir of La Montaña, carried out by the company Canaragua, significant leaks have been detected. According to the mayor, Alexis Henríquez, the leaks became apparent when the water reached four meters in height during the initial filling.
A meeting between technicians from Canaragua and the Ayuntamiento de Firgas is scheduled for this Tuesday to establish an urgent action plan. Cracks in the reservoir walls are allowing water to escape, an inconvenience that adds to the continuous supply cuts residents have endured for over two months due to the construction.
The local council is in the process of emptying the reservoir to assess the extent of the damage. Despite the issue, water supply to residents continues, although current consumption is moderate due to cooler temperatures. The mayor has assured that the reservoir will be operational for the summer and that the repair costs will be borne by the contracting company, as the work is under warranty.
There is concern among residents about the potential extension of repair works, given the proximity of summer and the subsequent increase in water demand, a recurring problem in municipalities like Firgas and Teror during the summer months.
