The Canarian Federation of Municipalities (FECAM) has launched the first edition of the FECAM Awards – Awards for Municipalism of Canarias, accolades aimed at highlighting the work of Canarian municipalities and their initiatives to improve citizens' quality of life and local development.
The project 'San Mateo en Ruta', a demand-responsive bus-taxi service for €1.50 in the municipality's neighborhoods, has been recognized as a finalist in the Territory, Sustainability, and Infrastructure category. This same project previously received the Innovative Mobility Project Award in Madrid last April.
This new recognition underscores the municipal effort to improve connections, especially for residents in neighborhoods without regular public transport. San Mateo en Ruta was created to bring mobility closer to these areas, offering an accessible transport alternative tailored to citizens' needs.
The awards ceremony will take place on October 21st in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, where the winning project will be announced. The Vega de San Mateo City Council already expresses its pride in reaching the final, valuing the work of all individuals involved in such initiatives.
The council reaffirms its commitment to continue working towards a more connected, accessible, and people-centered San Mateo.
