The municipality of La Frontera, on El Hierro island, is hosting the second edition of ‘Vinos con Estrella’ until November 3rd, an initiative to promote and market local wines to national sector professionals.

This strategic action, part of the Dinamiza Rural project by the Government of the Canary Islands, brings together sommeliers, distributors, importers, and gastronomic prescribers to showcase the uniqueness of El Hierro wines. Participants will tour wineries in the municipality to learn firsthand about the characteristics of these wines, defined by their volcanic origin, extreme cultivation conditions, and their connection to the landscape of El Hierro.
The Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries, and Food Sovereignty, Narvay Quintero, highlighted support for projects that generate economic activity and strengthen strategic sectors like viticulture. He noted that the wines from La Frontera exemplify the differential value of Canarian primary sector productions, combining quality, tradition, and territorial connection.
During the reception at the headquarters of the DO El Hierro Regulatory Council, the mayor of La Frontera, Pablo Rodríguez Cejas, welcomed attendees, thanking the Government of the Canary Islands for their support of these initiatives that enhance the territory, product, and local economy.
The program includes visits to wineries and vineyards, guided tastings, local product samplings, and meetings with producers. Featured locations include Viña Frontera, Bodega Uwe, Bodega Soterana, Bodega Las Vetas, Bodega Cornicales, and Bodega Mirador de Adra, along with an institutional visit to the Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) El Hierro Regulatory Council.
The Councilor for Local Development, Marcos A. Casañas Barrera, emphasized that this initiative, a finalist for the I Fecam Awards 2026, offers an opportunity to open markets and showcase the excellent wines produced in La Frontera.
The project aims to establish distribution agreements in mainland Spain, integrate these local products into specialized channels, and enhance La Frontera's position as a unique wine tourism destination. It also seeks to foster direct relationships between producers, distributors, and prescribers, creating synergies for new commercial avenues in the local wine sector.
Through Dinamiza Rural, the Government of the Canary Islands supports actions that diversify the economic activity of rural municipalities, strengthen the primary sector, and create new opportunities for professionals, promoting initiatives that connect local production, gastronomy, identity, and sustainable tourism.
