The municipality of El Pinar in El Hierro hosted various awareness and forest fire prevention activities from October 7 to 10, organized by the Ministry of Ecological Transition and Energy of the Government of the Canary Islands.

The initiative, part of the PICAs project, combined educational proposals for schoolchildren, home visits, community meetings, and an information stand at the municipal market. The objective is to promote citizen co-responsibility in active prevention and foster self-protection measures.
The events began on Wednesday, October 7, with a talk-exhibition at the CEIP Taibique for Early Childhood and Primary Education students, including the distribution of educational material and practical demonstrations with "fire tables" to understand forest fire dynamics.
Direct contact with the public was another key focus. On Thursday, October 8, and Friday, October 9, the technical team conducted door-to-door visits in the urban-forest interface areas of Taibique and Las Casas, distributing documentation and practical self-protection recommendations.
On that same Thursday, October 8, the Plenary Hall of the El Pinar de El Hierro Town Hall hosted a neighborhood meeting with a talk-exhibition for residents of Las Casas, Taibique, and surrounding areas, reinforcing the community's active role in prevention.
The activities concluded on Saturday, October 10, with a PICAs project information stand at the El Pinar de El Hierro Municipal Market, where preventive measures for homes in urban-forest interface environments and emergency response guidelines were shared.
These actions are part of the "Pilot project to increase the adaptive capacities of communities particularly exposed and vulnerable to forest fire episodes, in urban-forest interface areas in the Canary Islands" (PICAs), funded by the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge.
