The island of El Hierro hosted the 'Connect, Walk, and Share' event in the El Morcillo recreational area, as part of the 'El Hierro for Mental Health' campaign, aiming to promote emotional well-being and normalize pathologies.

The Management of Health Services of the El Hierro Health Area organized last Friday, September 25, the event ‘For Emotional Well-being: Connect, Walk, and Share’. The activity, held in the El Morcillo recreational area, is part of the ‘El Hierro for Mental Health’ campaign and its main objective was to promote emotional well-being, coexistence, and awareness about the importance of mental health care.
Professionals from Primary Care, Mental Health, and Social Work participated in the event. These experts accompanied attendees during a walk, providing information on the health and social resources available on the island. The meeting served to bring the work of various resources dedicated to mental health care and promotion closer to the public, fostering a space for coexistence.
The ‘El Hierro for Mental Health’ campaign will run until next October 10, coinciding with World Mental Health Day. Its objectives are to integrate mental health into the daily lives of citizens, publicize the health and social resources available on the island, reduce associated stigma, and facilitate early detection of risk situations. The actions are aimed at the general population, the educational community, individuals with mental health conditions and their families or caregivers, as well as healthcare personnel.
Upcoming planned activities include training sessions in educational centers on emotional management and warning signs, aimed at Secondary Education students and teachers. For healthcare professionals, sessions will focus on group dynamics, mental health intervention tools, and suicide prevention. Additionally, a ‘Patient School’ will be launched, a four-session program for individuals diagnosed with depression, focused on understanding and managing the illness.
As part of the campaign, on October 9, information booths will be set up in the island's three municipalities to reinforce prevention, awareness, and access to support resources. Furthermore, throughout the campaign period, the ribbon located at the Hospital Insular Nuestra Señora de los Reyes will be illuminated as a gesture of support for mental health promotion.
