The exhibition of ‘Arar, sembrar, esperar’ is part of the commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the reading of the Manifiesto de El Hierro, a milestone that marked a period of intense cultural activity in the Archipelago in the late 1970s.
The short film, 30 minutes long and shot entirely in Super 8, was filmed during the summer of 1976. Its content is directly linked to the claim of Canarian identity promoted by the Manifiesto de El Hierro and the inauguration of the Monumento Homenaje al Campesino, by sculptor Tony Gallardo.
The screening will take place on Tuesday, September 29, in Gran Canaria (Teatro Guiniguada, 7:00 PM), Wednesday, September 30, in Fuerteventura (Auditorio Insular, 8:00 PM), and Thursday, October 1, in Tenerife (Espacio La Granja, 7:00 PM). Admission will be free, with prior collection of tickets at the box office or online.
The documentary moves away from folkloric approaches to portray with dignity and rawness the effort of the El Hierro peasantry, constituting a valuable audiovisual testimony. It reflects Rosado's vision of marginalized realities and the territorial and cultural claim characteristic of Santana's style.
The programming of the cycle ‘Tiempo de memoria, memoria en el tiempo’, promoted by the Heritage Unit of the Canarian Institute for Cultural Development, will continue with films such as ‘Alcarrás’ by Carla Simón and ‘Da Vinci a subasta’ by Antoine Vitkine.
