Officials from the ESSSCAN, the Health Area, the Management of Health Services of El Hierro, and the Canary Institute for Equality held a working meeting to analyze the development of the School's training plan and the participation of healthcare and non-healthcare personnel from the Canary Health Service on the island. Between 2025 and 2026, the number of courses rose from six to sixteen, representing a 166.66 percent increase.
The meeting included the director of ESSSCAN, José Montelongo; the director of the Health Area of El Hierro, Pilar Mora; the manager of the Health Services, Jessica Acosta; the director of the ICI, Ana Padrón; and the management director of the El Hierro Health Management, Inés Quintero. During the meeting, growth data for ESSSCAN's activities were highlighted, with a 26.23 percent increase in the number of attendees at training sessions between 2025 and 2026, rising from 61 to 77 people.
Furthermore, teaching hours increased from 81 to 139, and the number of participants in training activities rose from 82 in 2025 to 138 in 2026. The number of certificates issued also grew, from 56 to 77. Regarding vocational training, activity increased from five courses in 2025 to thirteen this year, while commissioned training, which had no presence in 2025, saw two courses held in 2026.
The work carried out by ESSSCAN to strengthen its training activities in El Hierro, expanding knowledge update opportunities for healthcare professionals, was emphasized. Participants highlighted that this commitment to continuous training is fundamental for fostering the acquisition and updating of knowledge, improving professional competencies, and contributing to higher quality healthcare tailored to population needs.
With this increase in training actions, ESSSCAN reaffirms its commitment to the professional development of healthcare personnel across all islands and to strengthening a public health system prepared to face current and future challenges.
