The vessels Salvamar Diphda and Navia, supported by the Guardamar Urania, transferred the occupants to the port of La Restinga. The plane Sasemar 101 spotted the precarious vessel around 9:20 AM this morning, about 26 kilometers from the island.
According to initial impressions, the rescued individuals are in generally good condition, although a health team was waiting at the port for medical checks. Photographs sent by a Portuguese ship on Sunday, which sighted the canoe 165 miles south of El Hierro, match the vessel found today.
A specific search operation had been deployed since last Sunday to locate this canoe, conducting several sweeps in the area.
