The Agustín de la Hoz House of Culture in Arrecife is hosting the exhibition for the ‘6th Elisa Betancort Delgado Drawing and Painting Contest’ until October 30, organized by the ‘Mararía’ Social and Cultural Association for Women.

The exhibition showcases the 32 works that competed in the contest, where Olena Kosenko won the first prize of 800 euros for her piece ‘Raíces que respiran’ (Roots that Breathe). This artwork will be featured on the poster for the next edition. The second and third prizes, awarded with 500 and 300 euros respectively, went to Mayte Bethencourt Barreiro for ‘Memoria e identidad’ (Memory and Identity) and Isabelle Mathieu for ‘Melifluo’.
The jury, composed of Mariola Acosta, Ildefonso Aguilar, Pedro Tayó, María Isabel Navarro, Juli Mesa, and Rosa Vera, made the decision on the awarded works. The event was attended by the deputy mayor of Arrecife, Echedey Eugenio, and the president of ‘Mararía’, Nieves Rosa Hernández.
Both Eugenio and Hernández delivered emotional words remembering the artist and teacher Elisa Betancort Delgado, whose legacy is kept alive through this contest. They expressed gratitude for the participation and support from the artist's family.
The exhibition, curated by Lanzarote artist Lana Corujo, will be open to the public until Friday, October 30. Guided tours will be offered by Lanzarote artist and cultural manager David Machado on October 13 and 24. Additionally, artist Rosa Vera will lead a collage workshop on Saturday, October 10.
The winning artwork, ‘Raíces que respiran’, explores themes of identity, memory, and the connection between people, territory, and heritage, through the figure of a woman merging with the volcanic landscape of Lanzarote.
