This initiative, with over 15 years of history, aims to provide residents who do not speak Spanish with the essential linguistic tools for their daily lives, access to public resources, and active participation in the community.
Councilwoman Maite Corujo emphasizes the importance of communication for integration: “There is no greater barrier to integration than not being able to communicate. Learning the language allows people to function more autonomously, know their rights, access public services, and build relationships with their surroundings. Therefore, I encourage anyone who needs it to visit the municipal Social Services and inquire about this resource”.
Arrecife, with nearly 40% of its population from other countries and residents of over a hundred different nationalities, considers it essential to promote such initiatives. The city's diversity requires incorporating an intercultural perspective into municipal policies to prevent discrimination, promote equal opportunities, and foster citizen coexistence.
Spanish classes have become a resource for support, learning, meeting, and social inclusion for residents. The service includes formal language learning at various levels and a transversal program to enhance communicative skills and facilitate participants' social adaptation.
Interested individuals can register their demand throughout the year at the municipal Social Services facilities, located at calle Doctor Juan Negrín, s/n, behind the Cruz Roja building.
