The presentation of Agustín de la Hoz, un volcán humano took place last Friday in Arrecife, as part of the Global South Forum Dialogues, an event organized by Lanzarote Media. During his participation, Rajoy shared his reflections on the geopolitical, economic, and institutional challenges facing Europe and Spain today.
This gift is part of the commemorative events marking the centenary of Agustín de la Hoz's birth, a key figure in Lanzarote's thought and literature. Born in Arrecife in 1926, De la Hoz dedicated his life to defending Canarian cultural identity and denouncing social inequalities on his native island.
The book, published by the Arrecife City Council, is the work of Benchomo Guadalupe Oliva, author and director of the Municipal Archive. In its pages, Oliva explores the figure of De la Hoz, describing him as a “spirit ahead of his time,” and analyzes his literary output, focused on revealing the essence of Lanzarote and its people.
The publication also highlights the correspondence De la Hoz maintained with the renowned artist César Manrique between 1962 and 1963. This epistolary relationship reveals a shared aesthetic vision, united by their deep love for the island and their commitment to its preservation, a bond explored in detail in the work presented to Mariano Rajoy.
