The Councilor for Cleaning of the Arrecife City Council, Jacobo Lemes, publicly thanked citizen collaboration and the work of specialized agents after identifying two people responsible for abandoning a washing machine and other waste next to a dumpster on Tajaraste street.
A resident witnessed two individuals discarding the items and recorded the scene, later providing the video and time frame to the Local Police. Despite the absence of surveillance cameras at the exact spot, officers used images from municipal cameras in the surrounding area and the witness's information to identify the vehicle used and locate those responsible.
The two identified individuals are residents of the municipality and will be proposed for sanctions for violating the Municipal Ordinance on Cleaning and Sustainability. Councilor Jacobo Lemes highlighted the attitude of the neighbor who decided to collaborate, calling it "fundamental" to initiate the investigation.
Lemes also emphasized the work of the Unit for Environment and Solid Waste, stressing that police work, supported by citizen information and analysis of available images, was key to identifying the offenders, even without direct cameras at the dumping site.
The head of Cleaning insisted that citizen collaboration is "essential" to combat waste abandonment and encouraged citizens to continue reporting and providing data for the city's care. It is reminded that bulky items should not be left next to dumpsters but managed through the established municipal channels.
