Drivers in Arrecife face new traffic changes starting Tuesday, August 18. The council has established diversions and restrictions on Vía Medular due to the ongoing work to install the new rainwater drainage system.
The primary municipal guidance is for drivers to avoid Vía Medular as much as possible. It is suggested to use the Arrecife Ring Road as an alternative route to access neighborhoods around the work zone.
These changes significantly affect the roundabout near the Valterra Health Center and the PCAm gas station, as well as the intersection with Pérez Galdós street and the Road to Los Mármoles.
The new traffic configuration at the roundabout next to the Valterra Health Center takes effect this Tuesday. The works, which involve reorganizing traffic flow in a particularly busy area of Lanzarote's capital, have prompted the City Council to install temporary signage and barriers to guide drivers through alternative routes.
The recommendation for those needing to travel to neighborhoods near Vía Medular is reiterated: use the Circunvalation road to bypass the section affected by the construction.
Traffic closures also extend to the intersection of Vía Medular with Pérez Galdós street and the Road to Los Mármoles. Here, new rainwater pipes are being installed beneath the asphalt.
The City Council urges drivers to pay close attention to the temporary signage and to plan their journeys with extra time while the work continues.
This intervention is part of a broader plan to enhance Arrecife's drainage infrastructure, addressing areas historically prone to flooding. The council has indicated that approximately five million euros are being invested in expanding the rainwater network across various city locations, including Puerto de Naos.
The City Council decided to concentrate some of these activities during the summer months, aiming to reduce traffic impact. However, the underground works necessitate cuts and diversions that may cause inconvenience to residents and businesses.
The mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León, has requested public cooperation and understanding during the construction period, emphasizing the necessity of these interventions to improve the city's drainage capacity. The most practical advice for drivers in the capital remains simple: if you can avoid Vía Medular, take the Circunvalation.
