The Arrecife City Council, through its Public Works Department, is about to launch the tender for the transformation and modernization of Manolo Millares street. The planned investment for this project amounts to approximately 3.5 million euros. Mayor Yonathan de León announced that this initiative will create one of the five ecoboulevards planned by the Public Works Department, aiming to connect the city's neighborhoods with the capital's center.
This municipal intervention, which seeks to significantly renovate the image of the city's access points from the airport road, will focus in its second phase on turning Manolo Millares street, between Vía Medular (adjacent to the old cemetery) and Guenia street (near the Antonio Zerolo school), into an accessible green corridor. The Public Works Department is finalizing the technical and administrative specifications for its prompt tender, as part of the Municipal Plan promoted by Mayor Yonathan de León, which includes total investments of around 37 million euros in new works and actions across Arrecife's neighborhoods.
The street's transformation will include the installation of a new rainwater drainage system, crucial in an area with critical flooding points due to its proximity to sea level and El Reducto beach. A new lighting system, an automatic irrigation network, the provision of tree pits and trees, and urban furniture will also be implemented, along with resurfacing. Additionally, a small roundabout will be created at the height of Taburiente street to improve mobility towards the Las Salinas neighborhood.
In parallel, improvements to Pérez Galdós street will be tendered. According to official forecasts, these two vital works on the city's road network, one connecting the exit towards the southwest (airport road) and the other linking to the road towards the port of Los Mármoles, could commence next autumn.
