The company Hormiconsa has secured the contract for the beautification project of the access road to Lanzarote Airport, located in San Bartolomé. The firm submitted the only valid bid to carry out the works, amounting to 1.64 million euros, a figure slightly lower than the initial tender budget. The construction is expected to commence during the summer, once the contract is formalized.
The works, with a six-month execution period, will focus on enhancing the aesthetic and functional aspects of the access. Special attention will be given to the bridge and the tunnel located beneath the highway, as well as the rainwater collection channel, which is currently unprotected and accumulates debris. The main intervention will take place at the junction between the LZ-2 highway and the aerodrome entrance.
The official project details the need to modify existing slopes by planting new vegetation to "create a more visually pleasant environment and beautify the access." For the improvement of these slopes, rockeries and vegetation will be implemented, along with a reinforced drainage system using concrete gutters. Stone retaining walls with organic shapes will also be installed to improve surface drainage and direct rainwater to the channels.
The project will cover an area of 23,500 square meters in the vicinity of the LZ-2 road. One of the most notable features will be the installation of decorative sheet metal cladding at the tunnel entrances, adding an aesthetic touch to the infrastructure.
