The presence of buses is once again common in the parking area of Lanzarote César Manrique Airport, in San Bartolomé, since last Wednesday. This is due to a regionally reached agreement that suspends charges for the use of the parking infrastructure.
This agreement leaves open the possibility that charges for parking may be reinstated starting in January. Transport companies had initiated a boycott of the parking facilities on July 1st, when charges began, leading to the 72 bays in the area being largely empty.
Currently, the spaces closest to the transport companies' offices are being primarily used, largely due to their proximity to the ramp and elevators used by travelers.
During the boycott days, transport operators opted to direct their clients to other areas of the airport where temporary parking was possible without restrictions and on a rotational basis, after waiting at their usual operational bases.
It is worth remembering that the operational plan adopted by the management of Guacimeta aerodrome, similar to that implemented at other national airports, included a charge of 4 euros for every hour of uninterrupted stop in the parking area, after the initial grace period expired.
No measures have been considered to make parking for private vehicles free as well, which costs up to 22 euros per day.
