The police interventions took place in the early hours of August 6th near the La Marina Shopping Center, in Arrecife, an entertainment area with a high influx of young people. National Police officers observed the vehicles repeatedly picking up passengers to take them to different parts of the capital.
During the inspection, three mobile phones and an electronic payment terminal were found. One device contained a messaging group named "Uber". These elements, along with passenger statements and the officers' observations, serve as complementary evidence for the alleged infraction.

Minister Miguel Ángel Jiménez explained that the actions are classified as a very serious infraction under Canary Islands transport regulations, as they allegedly involved providing public transport without the necessary concession, authorization, or license. He emphasized the importance of monitoring new methods used to attract passengers, which are adapting to digital channels like messaging apps, not just street pickups.
Jiménez also highlighted the need for authorized transporters to comply with obligations and controls to ensure service safety, stating it is unfair for those operating outside these requirements to compete under the same conditions. He urged users to verify that their hired service is with a legally authorized operator, reminding them that convenience should not override the guarantees of regulated transport.
These actions were made possible by the surveillance of the National Police in the leisure area, who identified drivers and passengers, and subsequently shared the information with the Local Police of Arrecife for formalizing the complaint. The Cabildo stresses the importance of this collaboration in detecting discreet activities using digital channels and will continue inspection efforts, reminding residents and visitors to use only duly authorized transport services for a safer, regulated mobility system.
