Students from various high school grades in Puerto del Carmen are participating in essential training sessions on road safety, specifically focused on the use of electric scooters. These talks, organized by the Tías Local Police, seek to promote proper and conscious use of these personal mobility vehicles.
During the sessions, police officers provide fundamental information on current traffic regulations, the mandatory use of helmets and reflective vests, the technical characteristics that electric scooters must meet, and the correct way to circulate on public roads. Additionally, a video is shown with practical examples illustrating common infractions, and a Q&A session is held to address students' concerns.
Riding without a helmet incurs a fine of 200 euros, and other infractions can lead to fines of up to 1,500 euros. It is forbidden to ride on sidewalks or wear headphones.
The initiative responds to a general lack of awareness among students regarding these regulations, which exposes them to potential penalties. For instance, riding without a helmet can result in a fine of 200 euros, and other infractions can amount to up to 1,500 euros. It is emphasized that riding on sidewalks and using headphones while operating the scooter are prohibited.
This educational program is being implemented for the second consecutive year in the southern municipality's high schools. Previously, at the end of last January, students from the Tías institute, along with those from Los Lirios, had already received the same training.
