The Governing Board of the Insular Water Council of Fuerteventura (CIAF) has given the green light for the installation of a wastewater treatment plant (EDAR) at the Mirador de Morro Velosa, in Betancuria. This action will provide the facility with an autonomous wastewater treatment system, given the absence of municipal sanitation in the area.
This initiative is part of the rehabilitation of the Mirador de Morro Velosa, integrated into the 'Fuerte por Naturaleza' Tourism Sustainability Plan. The project, promoted by Museos de Fuerteventura, aims to renew and enhance the island's museum spaces.
The EDAR system will include a pumping station, a compact treatment unit, a disinfection system, a treated water tank for irrigation, and an emergency tank. It will have a capacity of 6 cubic meters per day, exclusively for drip irrigation.
Additionally, the CIAF Governing Board approved the general fiscal ordinance regulating the management, collection, and inspection of the organism's administrative fees. For the first time, the Insular Water Council has its own legal framework and tax procedures.
The insular president, Lola García, thanked the CIAF staff for their efforts in improving Fuerteventura's water cycle. Meanwhile, the Water Councilor, Adargoma Hernández, stated that this general ordinance will be followed by more specific ones to adjust fees to the current reality of the island, aiming for a positive impact on public domain and water quality.
The ordinance is provisionally approved and will be publicly displayed for 30 days on the CIAF's notice board and in the Official Gazette of the Province of Las Palmas. It will also be available on the CIAF's transparency portal and will apply to the Hydrographic Demarcation of Fuerteventura.
