The agreement, signed by the island president, Lola García, the Minister of Commerce, Lolina Negrín, the mayor of La Oliva, Isaí Blanco, and the councilor for the area, Alexandra Martín, aims to attract visitors to open commercial zones, encourage consumption in local businesses, and promote the cultural and gastronomic richness of the Canary Islands.
Lola García highlighted the Council's commitment to the development of local commerce as an economic pillar for Fuerteventura, emphasizing the importance of inter-administrative cooperation to extend these actions to all six municipalities on the island.
For her part, Minister Lolina Negrín detailed that commerce-related agreements exceed 63,000 euros in 2026, in addition to funding for merchant associations and the campaign ‘Yo Compro en Fuerteventura’ (I Buy in Fuerteventura).
Isaí Blanco, mayor of La Oliva, stressed the annual renewal of the agreement as continued support for local commerce, generating economic activity in the municipality. Councilor Alexandra Martín added that the 2026 subsidy has been allocated to the revitalization of the Corralejo Open Commercial Zone, reinforcing support for the commercial fabric.
