The Fuerteventura Tourism Board has presented its 2026 Distinguished Tourism Awards, recognizing the journalistic work of Santiago Travieso Quintana posthumously and honoring the company Agualoe, as well as Raúl Dávila Falcón, Sönke Schallmey, and Uwe Krug.

Journalist Santiago Travieso Quintana receives a special posthumous mention for his career in the tourism sector, particularly for his informative coverage at national and international fairs. Travieso, who arrived on the island in 1987 and founded Radio Sintonía in 1995, was a journalistic benchmark who reported on political and economic current affairs, as well as the Majorero idiosyncrasy.
The company Agualoe, founded by Daniel Acosta, has been awarded the Golden Beaches prize in the company category. Established in 2014 after years of experience in aloe vera cultivation, the company operates a production center in Agua de Bueyes (Antigua) that crafts 100% organic aloe vera products artisanally using raw materials from Fuerteventura.
Raúl Dávila Falcón has been honored with the Golden Beaches award in the individual trajectory category. Linked to the tourism transformation of Fuerteventura since 1970, Dávila is a key figure in the development of the tourism sector through investments in hotels and the creation of commercial areas.
Sönke Schallmey receives the Golden Beaches award in the Fuerteventura Blue Destination category for his work in environmental awareness and commitment to tourism sustainability. His organization of waste collection drives, which evolved into the social movement 'Limpia Cofete', stands out for protecting the Jandía Natural Park in Pájara.
The Golden Beaches award in the client category has been presented to Uwe Krug for his uninterrupted loyalty over the past 15 years. Since his first visit in 2011, along with his wife Monika and daughter Tina, the family has found Fuerteventura to be a place of peace and relaxation.
President Lola García highlighted the importance of these awards in recognizing the work of tourism sector professionals in making Fuerteventura a quality destination, always prioritizing respect for the environment. The Minister of Tourism for the Fuerteventura Island Council, Marlene Figueroa, emphasized that the tourism sector is the island's economic engine and main job creator, defining the awards as the sector's highest institutional recognition.
