The Fuerteventura Book Fair will dedicate part of its program on Friday, October 16th, to the figure and legacy of Federico García Lorca. The activities will connect literature and performing arts through a dialogue with playwright and screenwriter Alberto Conejero and a contemporary dance performance inspired by the life and death of the Granada poet.
At 8:30 PM, the Josefina Plá tent will host the encounter De La Bola Negra a La Piedra Oscura, a dialogue moderated by poet Javier Vicedo Alós. In it, Conejero will discuss two titles linked to the Lorquian universe and the recovery of stories marked by memory, identity, and dissent.
Alberto Conejero is one of the co-writers of the film La Bola Negra, by Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrossi, and author of the play La piedra oscura, related to Rafael Rodríguez Rapún, a figure linked to the life of Lorca. His participation will allow for a deeper exploration of the connections between literature, theater, cinema, and historical memory.
The film La Bola Negra has become a recent phenomenon in Spanish cinema, grossing nearly 4.7 million euros and attracting over 600,000 viewers. By October 12th, it had reached 23.5 million euros in revenue, ranking among the top ten highest-grossing Spanish films in history. The film, inspired by Federico García Lorca's universe and his unfinished work of the same title, addresses identity, desire, and historical memory, and has gained further recognition through international festival awards.
The day will also include, at 9:15 PM in the plaza of the Palacio de Formación y Congresos, the dance performance Padre Nuestro. Pasión y muerte de Federico García Lorca, by Valencian companies Migro Danza and Yapadú Artística.
This scenic piece is conceived as a performance that uses the body, memory, and symbolic elements to approach the poet's figure. The creation begins with the circumstances of his assassination in 1936 and broadens the perspective to include individuals silenced for their identity, sexual orientation, or beliefs, thus connecting historical memory with issues still present in contemporary society.
With an original concept and general direction by Edu Migro, and featuring performer Raúl Lledó, the show includes dramaturgy by Javier Sahuquillo and choreographic assistance by Ana Luján. It combines contemporary dance and physical theater to explore the expressive power of movement and sonic atmospheres.
The convergence of these two events makes Friday, October 16th, a day of particular interest for engaging with Lorca through different artistic disciplines. The reflections of Alberto Conejero will dialogue with a scenic creation that revives the poet's memory and poses questions about identity, freedom, and the persistence of historical silences.
The Book Fair is organized by the Insular Library Center, under the Department of Culture of the Cabildo de Fuerteventura, with the collaboration of the Canary Institute for Cultural Development of the Government of the Canary Islands and the Vice-Ministry of Social Welfare of the regional executive.
