The upcoming hunting season in Fuerteventura will bring several novelties following an agreement between the Island Council and the Island Hunting Council. These modifications, aimed at promoting the activity, were proposed after a year considered favorable for wildlife due to rainfall.
Among the most notable changes are the extension of open hunting seasons and an increase in the permitted number of dogs and ferrets. Additionally, hunting hours for the Barbary partridge have been extended until 3:00 PM during specific periods.
The Hunting Department has also established new training grounds, such as the one at the La Capellanía preserve in La Oliva, to aid in dog preparation. These areas will remain accessible even after the official hunting season concludes.
These updates have been submitted to the Regional Hunting Council, which will publish the official order in the Official Gazette of the Canary Islands before the end of June. Comprehensive information will also be available on the Island Council's website, cabildofuer.es.
For the first time, the hunting season will commence and conclude on the same dates across the entire province of Las Palmas, addressing a long-standing demand from hunters.
“"It is important to have the contributions of the Island Federation and the hunting societies from across the Island."
“"We have managed to reach a consensus in a cordial atmosphere where the contributions of the groups were valued, resulting in a series of novelties that benefit hunting activity on the Island."
Hunting without weapons and without capture for the Barbary partridge and rock dove will be permitted on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays, from July 5th to September 17th, with a maximum of four pointer dogs. Rabbit hunting with podenco dogs and ferrets will be allowed on Sundays from August 16th to November 8th, as well as on Thursday, October 29th. Hunting with weapons for the Barbary partridge and rock dove, using pointer dogs and a shotgun or bow, will be permitted on Sundays from September 20th to October 18th, from dawn until 3:00 PM. This same method can be practiced for a full day on Sundays from October 25th to November 8th, and on Thursdays, October 22nd and 29th.
