The Cultural Heritage department of the Cabildo of Fuerteventura has adopted precautionary measures to halt the demolition of a house located in Cueva de la Negra, in the municipality of Pájara. This decision aims to prevent potential irreversible damage to the area's cultural and archaeological heritage.
These measures, notified to the relevant administrations, are being applied with immediate effect. The characteristics of the house, its potential age, its location within the ancient settlement of Cueva de la Negra, its construction features, and its historical use all necessitate thorough documentation of the property before any irreversible action is taken.
Furthermore, the house is situated near an archaeological site, which calls for heightened protection measures and necessary precautions before any intervention that could affect the property, its immediate surroundings, or the subsoil.
The property owners submitted a request for measures to be taken on August 25. In response, the Cabildo acted urgently to prevent potential irreversible damage, as the planned demolition lacked the required studies.
The island corporation reminds that the Canary Islands Cultural Heritage Law grants cabildos the authority to adopt such precautionary measures in urgent cases, including the suspension of works or activities.
