The president of the Cabildo of Fuerteventura, Lola García, along with the island's town councils and the Chamber of Commerce, have succeeded in having the new maritime route contract include Fuerteventura as a mandatory stop.

The Official State Gazette (BOE) published the tender this Friday, October 2nd, which guarantees the stop in Fuerteventura within the technical specifications. This measure responds to a demand championed by the island's president, Lola García, and supported by the island's town councils and the Chamber of Commerce.
The inclusion of this mandatory stop ensures that the maritime connection with the mainland will no longer depend on the shipping company's voluntary decision and will be guaranteed. Concerns about the loss of connectivity had been communicated to the State through numerous letters and plenary agreements.
“

"This is a demand from the entire Island. We will remain attentive to the award and the implementation of the service until the connection becomes a reality again."

Lola García thanked the involvement of the six town councils, the Chamber of Commerce, and all sectors that joined in defending this claim, calling it "something that is fair for Fuerteventura".
