The island of Fuerteventura consolidates itself as the Canary territory with the highest percentage of foreign nationals. According to INE data from 2025, the island is home to 40,402 foreign individuals, representing 31.3% of its total inhabitants. Within this group, citizens from Italy and Colombia show the highest presence.
The combined number of Italian and Colombian residents in 2025 reached 14,619 people, jointly constituting more than a third of the foreign population in Fuerteventura. This figure underscores the significance of these two communities in the island's demographics.
The Italian community has experienced notable growth on the island, increasing from 8,183 residents in 2021 to 9,802 in 2025, a rise of nearly 20% over four years. Currently, approximately one in every four foreigners in Fuerteventura is of Italian nationality. Their settlement is particularly concentrated in the municipality of La Oliva, where 5,310 Italians reside, followed by Puerto del Rosario with 1,785 and Antigua with 1,588.
Meanwhile, the evolution of the Colombian community has been even more rapid. In 2021, there were 2,560 Colombian nationals residing in Fuerteventura, a figure that rose to 4,817 in 2025, marking an increase of over 88%. The main hub for this community is in Puerto del Rosario, with 2,683 residents, followed by Tuineje (758) and La Oliva (796).
This increase contrasts with the trend of the British population, historically linked to the islands. In Fuerteventura, British residents have decreased from 4,279 in 2021 to 3,673 in 2025, a reduction of 14%.
