The event will combine solar observation with specialized telescopes, educational workshops, viewing of a partial solar eclipse, and the Perseid meteor shower. The activity is aimed at all audiences and is expected to be a scientific and participatory experience.
The counselor for Fuerteventura Museums, Rayco León, highlighted the exceptional conditions at La Atalayita for astronomical observation, calling the coincidence of the eclipse and meteor shower a very special event to bring astronomy closer to the public.
Carlos Muñoz, from AstroCiencia Nómada, noted that Fuerteventura will be one of the best places in the Canary Islands to observe the eclipse, with an obscuration close to 72%. The event will occur near sunset, offering a striking image before the Perseids.
The program will begin at 10:00 AM with solar observation using professional solar telescopes, explanations about the star, spectrography demonstrations, and the presentation of a meteorite. Certified glasses for safe eclipse viewing will be distributed.
Starting at 4:00 PM, a workshop on the Sun and solar eclipses will be held, followed by the observation of the partial eclipse, with maximum obscuration at 7:53 PM.
From 9:00 PM, the day will continue with an astronomical photography workshop and observation of the Perseids. Attendees can participate in counting and photographing shooting stars, as well as observing Saturn and deep sky objects with specialized astronomical equipment.

To facilitate safe eclipse viewing, CE-certified solar observation glasses will be distributed until supplies last. They can be collected at various points, including the Fuerteventura Archaeological Museum, La Alcogida Ecomuseum, and Cabildo offices in Morro Jable and Gran Tarajal. On August 12th, glasses will also be given out at La Atalayita and at an event organized by the Department of Education and Youth.
Distribution will be limited to a maximum of two glasses per person to ensure availability. Advance collection is recommended.
