Within the framework of the IX Insular Congress of Socialist Youth of Fuerteventura, held last Friday, José Ramón Rodríguez assumed the general secretary position of the socialist youth organization on the island. The election also defined the new Insular Executive Commission.
The Executive Commission will be composed of José Curbelo (Organization and Democratic Memory), Nicole Galarza (Communication), Borja Mederos (Primary Sector and Animal Welfare), Elena Santana (Equality, Feminism, and LGTBIQ+), and César Rivero (Education).
Under the slogan «The island we want», Rodríguez highlighted in his speech the main difficulties facing the youth of Fuerteventura, emphasizing the scarcity of job and training opportunities, as well as the growing challenges for emancipation and housing access.
The new general secretary also focused on the need to expand and improve higher education offerings in Fuerteventura, noting that the absence of certain university degrees forces many young people to move away from the island, representing a significant financial burden for numerous families.
The event was attended by prominent public and organic officials from the PSOE of Fuerteventura, including Cabildo counselor Víctor Alonso, the Director of the General Administration of the State in Fuerteventura, María Jesús de la Cruz, and the mayor of Pájara, Alejandro Jorge.
With the celebration of this IX Insular Congress, Socialist Youth of Fuerteventura embarks on a new phase focused on strengthening youth participation, defending the rights and opportunities of new generations, and working towards a fairer island with greater future possibilities for all of Fuerteventura's youth.
