The Fuerteventura-based station Onda Fuerteventura will move to Vega de Río Palma to provide comprehensive coverage of the celebrations honoring the Virgen de la Peña, the patron saint of Fuerteventura. The special programming will run from Thursday, September 17, to Sunday, September 20.
On Friday, September 18, the station will broadcast live from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM, fulfilling its mission to bring radio and television to all corners of the island and region. This day marks the main celebration.
The detailed schedule includes the Institutional Bola Canaria match on Wednesday, September 17 (starting at 5:00 PM). On Friday, September 18, the Romería-Ofrenda (pilgrimage and offering) to the patron saint will take place at 5:00 PM, followed by popular festivals (verbenas).
Saturday, September 19, will feature the procession of the Virgin, a solemn Eucharist, a Bola Canaria exhibition, concerts, and a festival. Sunday, September 20, will conclude the events with a traditional wrestling match (luchada) in honor of the Virgen de La Peña.
The opening proclamation will be held on Thursday, September 17, at 8:30 PM in the square adjacent to the church, delivered by local resident Antonio Ravelo, and will be broadcast live. The Romería-Ofrenda on Friday, September 18, will depart at 5:30 PM from Betancuria, concluding at the Sanctuary of Nuestra Señora de la Peña, passing through the Betancuria ravine.
The celebration will also include a festival at 11:00 PM, a Eucharist at midnight, and a fireworks display.
Onda Fuerteventura, the Radio and TV group, has continuously participated in these festivities for the past nine years, dedicating its efforts to reporting on all activities related to the Island's Patron Saint.
