The partial solar eclipse yesterday offered a memorable sight in Fuerteventura, attracting around 3,500 people to the Interpretation Center of the La Atalayita Settlement. The event, organized by the Cabildo of Fuerteventura through Fuerteventura Museums, combined solar observation and scientific outreach activities throughout the morning and into the night.
The peak moment arrived at sunset, when the eclipse reached nearly 72% occultation, providing a unique view before the sky filled with stars. The evening continued with observations of the Perseids, taking advantage of Fuerteventura's skies, recognized as a Starlight Reserve for their quality.
The program also included an astronomical photography workshop, observations of Saturn and deep-sky objects, along with scientific outreach activities. The choice of La Atalayita allowed for the fusion of the astronomical experience with a valuable archaeological site, preserving over a hundred constructions from ancient inhabitants and aiming to become the island's first Archaeological Park.
The Cabildo of Fuerteventura has thanked the public for their participation in this event, which brought astronomy closer to citizens and allowed them to enjoy a special celestial occurrence in a unique setting.
