The anticipated final of the Canary Wrestling Cup in Fuerteventura, which was set to pit Maxorata against Unión Antigua, has been officially suspended. The decision, announced by the Fuerteventura Insular Wrestling Federation, stems from the need to clarify "issues related to the existing administrative and federation situation" to ensure fairness and regulatory compliance.
The suspension occurs despite the event being scheduled at the Terrero Pedro Sánchez in Tarajalejo. Controversy arose concerning the participation of two wrestlers from Unión Antigua who had tested positive in an anti-doping control and were provisionally suspended, although the club claims they were not formally notified of this status. These wrestlers had already competed in two previous bouts under these circumstances.
The Insular Federation has issued an official statement explaining that the decision is made to "preserve the correct development of the competition, fairness among participating clubs, and compliance with current regulations." Formal clarifications will be requested from the Canary Wrestling Federation to determine the next steps.
A new date for the final will be announced once the necessary resolution and guarantees for its dispute are in place. Next Friday is being considered as a possible date, pending the results of counter-analyses and the resolution of federation procedures.
