The island of Fuerteventura stands out nationally, with three of its sandy shores making it into the elite group of the five best-rated beaches in Spain for the summer of 2026. This recognition comes from a study conducted by the vacation rental platform Holidu, which analyzed thousands of user reviews on Google Maps.
In the ranking, Cofete beach secures the second position, closely followed by Sotavento beach in third place. The Grandes Playas de Corralejo complete the island's presence on the list, ranking fifth. Only Platja de Muro in Mallorca stands between these Fuerteventura enclaves and the top spot on the national podium.
The report emphasizes the exceptional achievement of having three of the five distinguished beaches located on a single island. Holidu highlights the unique combination of unspoiled landscapes, crystal-clear waters, and protected natural spaces as key factors that have established Fuerteventura as a premier coastal destination for European travelers.
Cofete, the highest-ranked beach in the archipelago, is situated within the Jandía Natural Park. The platform underscores its wild character and virtually untouched environment, characterized by miles of golden sand, arid mountains, and the imposing presence of the Atlantic Ocean. Its relative isolation and challenging access have been instrumental in preserving one of the most spectacular landscapes in the Canary Islands.
In the southern part of Fuerteventura, Sotavento beach is internationally renowned for the unique lagoons that form during low tide. Its conditions make it an ideal setting for water sports such as windsurfing and kitesurfing. The study notes that its vast expanse allows for both sporting activities and areas dedicated to tranquility and relaxation.
The third Canary Islands site included in this prestigious list is the Grandes Playas de Corralejo, located in the north of the island. These beaches are part of the Corralejo Natural Park and are characterized by their extensive dune fields, turquoise waters, and panoramic views towards the islet of Lobos and the island of Lanzarote.
To compile this ranking, Holidu examined over 9,500 beaches across European coastal regions. The analysis was based on ratings and comments available on Google Maps, excluding locations with fewer than one hundred reviews and considering both the average score and the volume of feedback received. The data was collected during May 2026.
The significant presence of the Canary Islands in the ranking coincides with a year in which the archipelago maintains its importance in Spanish coastal tourism. Currently, the islands boast 52 beaches awarded the Blue Flag, an international certification recognizing environmental quality, safety, and services.
These results solidify Fuerteventura's reputation as one of Europe's leading beach destinations, with locations that continue to garner praise for both their intrinsic scenic value and the overall experience they offer visitors.
