The Civil Guard located two mortar projectiles with an explosive charge inside a residence in the Atalaya Dorada urbanization of Corralejo, in the municipality of La Oliva, Fuerteventura, on April 15.

The discovery of these devices, which showed characteristics consistent with military-grade material, led to the immediate activation of established security protocols for such situations.
Following the finding, the GEDEX unit from Lanzarote, specialized in managing dangerous artifacts, was notified. An initial assessment, based on images, confirmed that the projectiles posed a real risk.
While awaiting the arrival of specialists, the area was cordoned off and secured to prevent any incidents. Upon arrival, technicians verified that the artifacts, approximately 50 millimeters in caliber, contained an active explosive charge.
The projectiles were removed by the specialists and transported for controlled destruction, following standard procedures for this type of military material.
The Civil Guard emphasizes the importance of acting cautiously when encountering suspicious objects. It is crucial not to handle them, to move away from the area, and to immediately contact emergency services or law enforcement. Furthermore, it is reiterated that military-grade material is exclusively reserved for the Armed Forces, as established by current legislation.
