The island of Fuerteventura will host the ‘Biosphere in Action, Climate and Biological Corridors International Meeting’ on October 13 and 14. This event, organized by the Fuerteventura Biosphere Reserve, will bring together specialists and representatives from various territories to share experiences and address key challenges in environmental conservation and climate change adaptation.
The meeting will take place at the Congress and Training Palace and aims to be a space for exchange, cooperation, and proposal generation. It will focus on the role of Biosphere Reserves as benchmarks for advancing towards more sustainable development models.
The regional minister for the area, Marlene Figueroa, emphasized that hosting the event in Fuerteventura reinforces the island's commitment to preserving its natural values and adapting to climate change.
The program will include the analysis of experiences and projects from different Biosphere Reserves, addressing topics such as climate change, biodiversity, biological corridors, ecosystem conservation and adaptation, paleontology, digital tools for environmental management, and the expansion of marine protected areas.
Specialists from universities such as the University of La Laguna and the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, as well as national and international entities and projects focused on conservation and Atlantic Biosphere Reserves, will participate.
The session on Tuesday, October 13, will focus on climate, with discussions on adaptation, biodiversity, and climate action. Wednesday, October 14, will be dedicated to the biosphere, covering topics such as Canarian date palms, ecosystem conservation, and marine protected areas.
In addition to presentations and working groups, the meeting will facilitate the exchange of experiences among professionals and institutions to promote territorial management and conservation.
The event, with an ecosocial and cooperative vision, aims to generate new ideas and promote actions to address current environmental challenges, with the participation of entities linked to the UNESCO MaB program and the World Network of Biological Corridors.
