The 2026-2027 season of Neuromajo has kicked off with the 'Carrera de Letras' (Race of Letters), a cognitive stimulation competition that, for the first time, extended across all municipalities of Fuerteventura between October 2nd and 8th.

This event, designed to exercise memory, concentration, and logical or linguistic problem-solving skills, separated from the main competition weekend to traverse the island's geography.
The Neuromajo project, driven by the Department of Social Action of the Cabildo of Fuerteventura in collaboration with the Neurolimpica Association, involves the six island municipalities. This year, Padilla Supermercados Spar, Grupo Barceló, and Dany Sport have joined as collaborators, aiming to foster active aging among seniors.
Beyond pure competition, the project's main objective is to create a convivial environment that combats loneliness, strengthens camaraderie, and values the life experience of older adults.
A total of 18 teams are participating this season: Las Elegidas and Imparables (Antigua), Virgen de la Peña (Betancuria), Las Guirre, Las Lobas, and La Tahona (La Oliva), L@s Atrevid@s, Cofete, Faro, Amigos de Pájara, Pájara se Mueve, and Playas de Pájara (Pájara), Las Apañás, Las Baifas, Maxopuerto, and Los Picarones (Puerto del Rosario), and Camellito and Las Moriscas (Tuineje).
The Cabildo reminds that the inaugural parade will take place on Friday, October 16th, starting at 5:00 PM in Caleta de Fuste (Antigua). The rest of the competition will be held at Playitas Sports Resort on Saturday, October 17th, and Sunday, October 18th, from 10:30 AM onwards, featuring qualification rounds, finals, and a closing ceremony.
To conclude the season, the Palace of Training and Congresses of Fuerteventura (Puerto del Rosario) will host the Gala NeuroMajo 2026 in February 2027, recognizing the effort made throughout the season.
Both the president of the Cabildo, Lola García, and the Minister of Social Action, Víctor Alonso, expressed their pride in developing the Neuromajo project for another year and thanked the participation of monitors, the Neurolimpica Association, the six town councils, collaborating entities, and all participants in an initiative that promotes the active life of Fuerteventura's seniors.
