The authorizations, which will allow for 'apañadas' (captures) to be carried out over the next five years, from 2026 to 2030, will apply to public forests and various protected natural spaces on the island.
Designated areas include the Integral Nature Reserve of Inagua, the Special Nature Reserves of Los Marteles and Guguy, the Natural Parks of Tamadaba and Pilancones, the Rural Park of Nublo, and the Natural Monuments of Tauro and Riscos de Tirajana. Areas of Special Conservation (ZEC) within these same areas are also included, excluding specific exclusion zones.
Interested individuals have 15 business days from the upcoming Monday to submit their official application through the Cabildo's website.
Captured specimens may only be used for the private human consumption of the authorized individuals, with any commercial activity or introduction into livestock farming strictly prohibited.
Obtaining authorization is conditional upon prior completion of two training courses provided by the Cabildo: one on animal welfare and another on risk prevention in live animal captures.
The authorized capture methods are traditional: rope and/or pole with rope and stopper. Mass or non-selective methods are expressly forbidden.
