The operation by the Citizen Security Unit of the Canarian Police began after emergency services reported the presence of an armed person with suicidal ideations in a single-family home.
The individual exited the residence carrying an axe, which they used to attack an ambulance, causing damage to one of its wheels, before returning and barricading themselves inside the house.
“"Officers entered the property and attempted to mediate with the man, who at one point emerged from one of the rooms wielding a large axe, maintaining a highly aggressive stance and disobeying police orders to surrender."
Given the individual's persistent active resistance, the police used an electronic control device to subdue and immobilize him, requiring two discharges without immediate neutralization.
Finally, after an hour of negotiation, the individual was persuaded to surrender, allowing medical services to attend to him and subsequently transfer him to the Hospital Universitario de Gran Canaria Doctor Negrín.
The Canarian Police reported that, despite the intensity of the intervention, no serious injuries were sustained by the officers involved, although police reinforcements were activated to ensure safety in the area during the incident.
