The decision is based on information from the State Meteorological Agency and other available sources, activating the Canary Islands Specific Emergency Plan for Adverse Meteorological Phenomena Risks (PEFMA).
High concentrations of African-origin suspended dust are being recorded, particularly in Fuerteventura, Lanzarote, and La Graciosa, with dust also reaching Gran Canaria. Further dust contributions are expected to increase particle concentrations and further reduce visibility.
This phenomenon could worsen health problems for individuals with chronic and/or respiratory conditions. Air quality and the evolution of the episode will be continuously monitored.
