The Cabildo de Gran Canaria will begin emergency works on Monday, May 11, on the GC-500 road, between Arguineguín and Patalavaca, leading to traffic cuts from Monday to Friday, from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM, for 15 days.

These works are crucial for clearing the hillsides affected by landslides caused by storm Therese last March. The cuts will be located at the Cola de Ballena roundabout in Arguineguín and the Espiral roundabout in Patalavaca, with alternative routes via the GC-1.
To minimize inconvenience, especially for hospitality staff, the daily closure will extend until 4:00 PM. Additionally, controlled access will be permitted for residents and guests of the Sunwing and Servatur Green Beach hotels, ensuring their entry to the area.
The works will involve clearing the slopes by controlled demolition of large rocks and subsequent application of shotcrete to reinforce the stability of the embankments. These tasks, part of Lot 8 of emergency actions, have an investment of 460,000 euros and have been awarded to the company Ring Canarias, SL. This lot also includes slope stabilization on the Fataga (GC-60) and Los Cuchillos (GC-65) roads.
Storm Therese caused damage to about twenty roads in southern Gran Canaria, prompting the Public Works Service to immediately process emergency actions. In total, 18 lots were awarded to various companies, with an estimated global budget of 13.39 million euros. The intervention on the GC-500 is essential to ensure the safety of drivers and residents against future intense rains and to maintain mobility in the southern part of the island.
