Iglesias's victory, a member of the Real Club Náutico de Gran Canaria, adds to a remarkable performance by the Spanish delegation, which secured a total of two world titles, one silver medal, and two bronze. This success comes just before La Palma hosts the national Spanish Championship for the modality between April 29 and May 3.
In addition to Cristina Iglesias's gold in the U-15 female category, the Canarian representation celebrated the silver medal obtained by Martina Bárbara in Techno Plus U-19 female. Both sailors, along with Leticia Martín (twelfth in Techno Plus) and national coach Isidro Henríquez, belong to the Real Club Náutico de Gran Canaria, which continues to expand its already extensive track record.
Cristina Iglesias maintained the first position in the standings from the beginning of the regatta in Ottoman waters, never relinquishing the lead. She finished the competition with a five-point advantage over the second-place finisher, Italian Alessandra Porcu, accumulating one first place, three second places, and one third place in the seven races contested.
The Spanish team also celebrated the U-15 male world title, achieved by Mallorcan Joshua Castro, and the bronze medal by Galician Marcos Dasilva. In the U-17 female category, Sevillian Olivia Sánchez was crowned world runner-up, completing an excellent performance for the national delegation.
