Marques Townes, a 30-year-old shooting guard, is emerging as a potential reinforcement for the Canarian club. Known for his scoring ability and international experience, the player has played for several European teams. After going undrafted in the NBA in 2019, he participated in the NBA Summer League with the Chicago Bulls before signing with UCAM Murcia.
His career includes stints with BC Kalev/Cramo in Estonia, KTE KK in Hungary, where he averaged 15.4 points, 4 rebounds, and 4.7 assists, and BK Opava in the Czech Republic, with 16.2 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 4.9 assists in the 2023-24 season. He finished that campaign with PAOK Thessaloniki in Greece.
In the 2024-25 season, Townes played for KB Peja in Kosovo and Anorthosis Famagusta in the FIBA Europe Cup. He later returned to Spain to join Oviedo Baloncesto on October 12, 2025, where he became a key player, averaging 16.2 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 4.3 assists.
The Canarian club would secure the services of an experienced, quick-shooting guard who is an international for the Dominican Republic and boasts an extensive resume across Europe.
Gran Canaria has also expressed interest in Icelandic point guard Jón Alex Gudmundsson, 29, after his contract with Recoletas Salud San Pablo Burgos concluded. Gudmundsson played alongside potential future coach Savignani during the promotion season to the Liga Endesa.
