The National Police has arrested five people in Gran Canaria as part of 'Operation Brida', an investigation into a kidnapping that occurred on March 19, 2025. The events began when three individuals approached a man in the Siete Palmas neighborhood of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, beat him, and forced him into a van.
Once inside the vehicle, the victim was bound, gagged, and threatened with a revolver. The kidnappers switched vehicles with the victim before abandoning him in the municipality of Telde. During his captivity, they stole his mobile phone and the keys to a high-end vehicle.
The investigation, carried out by agents of the Specialized and Violent Crime Unit (UDEV) of the Superior Police Headquarters of the Canary Islands, led to the location of the van used in the kidnapping. Inside, material related to the events was found, and it was discovered that the vehicle was using a false license plate.
A key element in solving the case was the discovery of a GPS device installed under the victim's own vehicle, which was allegedly used to monitor his movements. Through various inquiries, investigators identified the five alleged perpetrators.
The arrested individuals were brought before the judicial authority on charges of illegal detention. The investigating judge ordered the imprisonment of one of the detainees after the police proceedings were completed.
