Renowned chef Gabriel Estévez, owner of the Agáldar restaurant in Gáldar, reveals his favorite establishments in Gran Canaria to enjoy the rich local gastronomy.

From his beginnings in Fuerteventura, where he learned the trade and forged his entrepreneurial spirit, Gabriel Estévez has developed a notable career in hospitality. After leading several restaurants and employing nearly 200 people on the Majorera island, love brought him to Gran Canaria, settling in Gáldar to open his current restaurant, Agáldar, which has become a gastronomic meeting point.
Estévez highlights Gran Canaria's culinary richness, especially in the north of the island, thanks to the abundance of zero-kilometer products like fruits, vegetables, and produce, as well as the proximity of the Agaete port for fresh fish. This diversity inspires him for creative and thoughtful cuisine.
For breakfast, the chef recommends the brunch at his own restaurant Agáldar, as well as Limón y Miel and Hondo Café in Agaete, the latter for its sourdough bread. His usual choice is an Iberian toast with tomato and avocado, or eggs benedict for brunch.
Dorada Especial beer is a symbol of local identity for Estévez, considering it an essential ritual before meals and a perfect accompaniment in his restaurant. Its good reception among tourists underscores its popularity.
In Gáldar, he recommends Juan Pedro's tavern for its home-style cooking, José La Cuarta for its dynamic menu, and La Pizarra Sabores del Mar for quality fish. In the capital, La Bodega de la Avenida and El Churrasco are ideal for meats, while El Ronqueo stands out for its rice dishes.
For dinner, the chef opts for Fuji for Japanese fusion, Rêver for its innovative proposal, and Madre del Amor Hermoso on Las Canteras with sea views. In the south, Asador Las Lilas and La Palmera Sur are must-visit stops.
Regarding drinks, Carlichi is a regular spot, although he prefers to enjoy them at home. The terrace of Emblemático Agáldar is his meeting point for afternoon gatherings with friends and live music.
His favorite Canarian product is the banana, for its versatility in sweet and savory dishes, followed by gofio, both pillars of local gastronomy that, according to Estévez, should be more promoted.
